Ayvalik is renowned for the unique taste of its olive oil, seafood and wild herbs. There are nearly 2.5 million olive trees throughout the area. Centuries old olive trees pass from generation to generation and thrive on the favorable microclimate of the region.

There are many local shops where you can buy olive oil. Each shop sells tasty olive oil, you can try all and then pick the one you like the best.

In Ayvalik there are lots of different kinds of fresh seafood such as octopus, shrimps, mussels and various Aegean fish. Besides seafood, traditional appetizers (meze) such as salicornia and stuffed courgettes are made with olive oil.

Ayvalik is in a region, where the natural habitat is still intact. You can gather wild herbs such as pine nuts, nettle, blessed thistle, chicory and izvinye yourself and use in your food to give a special flavor.

Every Thursday is Ayvalik’s local market where you can explore shopping for your taste buds. From surrounding villages and towns, local men and women come to open their stalls.
